Done for the Night

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Ryan D'Angelo

Ryan D'Angelo (Endicott, NY) makes a steady climb all day and is the chip leader with 434,500 at the end of Day 2.

"I played very well," says D'Angelo, who started the day sixth in chips. "I didn't run into many bad situations. I saw a lot of opportunities to pick on the shorter stacks who didn't want to go broke."

D'Angelo and the other 77 remaining players (147k avg.) return at 11 am Wednesday for Day 3 play, as they vie for the top prize of $355,535.

* Penalty, blinded off last 45 minutes.

Towards the end of play Gene Castro and Eric Doerr both busted when their pocket kings were cracked.

At it Again

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

The emotions of Stephen Reynolds (Little Egg Harbour, NJ) has earned himself a penalty after he stands up, violently throws his cards across the table and gets nose to nose with the floor manager while cursing him out. The initial one orbit penalty has been extended to the end of Level 14, putting Reynolds on the rail for 45 minutes.

Reynolds, who we highlighted Monday for excessive celebration, is in a hand with Konstantino Dimitroulakos (Tinton Falls, NJ) and is adamant that Dimitroulakos' hand should be dead after the cards are held above the table and visible to some bystanders before the preflop betting is complete.

The manager rules that the hand is still live and attempts to diffuse the situation by having play continue. The board is 6
5 3 10 J♣ and Reynolds checks the river, followed by Dimitroulakos who says, "you check? I have pocket sevens."

With that, Reynolds explodes from his seat, fires his cards across the table and on to the floor. He screams down the floor and storms out of the Poker Room. After returning to the tournament area Reynolds gets word he's done for the night.

D'Angelo Doing Damage

Players are back from break and playing the final level of the night. We've been tracking Ryan D'Angelo (Endicott, NY) who began the day 6th in chips with 116k.

He's been on a steady uptick all day and appears to be the chip leader as he approaches 350k.

We'll get the big stacks and notables when they bag and tag at 9 pm.

Level 14 (1000/2000/200 ante) continues.

Feeling Ill

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

It's tough to determine which will be a harder recovery for Adam Gerber. His 24 hour illness or going from 250k in chips to the rail in four hands.

Gerber's first confrontation comes against Keith Crowder on a board of A 7 3, with Gerber holding AK. The turn is an 8, followed by a river 9. Crowder is all in for 100k and Gerber's cut in half when Crowder tables J 10 for runner, runner straight.

A few hands later against Joe Bowles (Newtown, PA), they see a board of K 3 5 10 J. Gerber leads out for 22k with 60k behind. Bowles shoves and Gerber, who's at risk, calls.

The river jack is a killer card, as it gives Bowles the straight with AQ vs the two pairs, kings and jacks for Gerber.

And just like that Gerber's on the rail, while Bowles is close to 250k. Crowder doubles to ~200k.

Level 13 (800/1600/200 ante) winding down.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

A smattering of comments overhead from the tables:

Maurice Hawkins, "I'm telling you if you reraise me one more time, my next bet will be all in. Anyone in this room knows I'm not kidding. I don't care what I have, you reraise me, I'm all in.

Gene Castro, "The over/under for me is 7 o'clock. Although I say a lot of stuff that's not true." (Castro's still in the field at 7:05 pm).

Konstantino Dimitroulakos, "I had nothing, how many times do you want me to say it? Five? I had nothing."

Min Dynasty

Jason "Asian J" Min started the day 7th in chips with 114k, and is slowly building a stack to more than 300k. "I've been lucky, but haven't been too risky," says the unofficial chip leader.

Min's biggest haul is when his 7 8 sees a flop of 8 8 2, good for an 80k pot.

Level 13 (800/1600/200 ante) is underway, this the penultimate level of the night.

Dentale's Double +

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Mike Dentale's been nursing a short stack all day when he finally gets it all in with K K. Two players fold to the cutoff who calls 6k more after calling an initial raise.

The board run cleans and Dentale nearly triples up to 31k. "It's the first hand I've had all day, bro" says Dentale who started with 50k.

Players are on a 10 minute break.

Saul Sacked, Kings Cracked

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Kevin Saul is out. He tangled with Roger Van Driesen, who had him covered. On a Jack-high flop, they get all the chips in the middle. Kevin's pocket Kings had been out-flopped by Roger's pocket Jacks. Roger is up to ~170k. Kevin is out the door.

Roger Van Driesen

Mary Shilale is also gone, leaving just two women still in the hunt.

What a Difference a Day Makes

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Two players hit hard times Monday, but 24 hours later, both are feeling pretty good.

Pray
er of St. Stradley

Bill Stradley

Bill Stradley (Boothwyn, PA) was down to 5k early during Day 1B, but got an inspirational email from his mother. A Hail Mary and some encouraging words did the trick as divine intervention helps him go on a heater to close Monday with 55k.

"If you believe in God and believe in yourself, you'll be fine," says the Borgata regular. "Anything can happen."

And that's the case Tuesday when Stradley raises with 2-4 from the button because he's titling. His opponent hits a flush on the turn, but Stradley takes down the 50k pot when he fills up on the river.

Stradley now has 160k.

Gerber's Healthy Stack

Adam Gerber (Moorestown, NJ) didn't think he'd be playing on Day 2 because he was violently ill Monday night after playing in Sundays Day 1A.

"I felt like I was dying, literally," says Gerber. "I was supposed to work Monday, but I stayed in the hotel all day." Fortunately Gerber has a doctor friend who came to Borgata and hooked him up with a B12 injection and some antibiotics.

"I still didn't think I was going to play when I woke up this morning, it was that bad," he says, "But now I'm feeling much better."

Gerber began the day 9th in chips with 104k and is now approaching 300k after taking down a pot against Keith Crowder. On a board of A 2 3 10 J, Keith Crowder bets 16,200 and Gerber makes the call. Neither player has a heart and Gerber's two pairs, aces and jacks, is good against A 7.

"One of these times, you're going to pay me off," says Crowder. "You have to get there first," says Gerber with a quick response.

Level 12 (600/1,200/100 ante) continues.

Level Up

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Just before the break, Tim Ulmer got all-in on a flop of T 7 4 with two diamonds. The player on his left called, showing pocket Aces. Tim held A2 of diamonds. "Good Luck" Tim (who was drawing) said to the guy holding Aces. Sure enough, turn brought the King of diamonds, completing Tim's flush. River was irrelevant and Tim doubled up.

Mike Dentale has dropped from 120k down to less than 20k in one level. He's now circling the drain. On that same table, Konstantino Dimitroulakos told me he is on his FOURTH double vodka on the rocks. "And you're still sitting upright. That's impressive." I said. "I'm Russian" he explained.

Mike Dentale

End of level 11. Players took a ten minute break and will resume play with level 12, blinds 600/1,200 with 100 antes. 15 tables remain. About 131 players.

Kevin Saul tweeted "Just hero called 23k from old man who rapes my soul on Kc4c2xJd6x with 4d2c (limped pot pre in BB) 123k".

Despite what the structure sheet says, they will only play 7 levels today, just like yesterday, with no dinner break.

Who's Left?

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Adam Gerber

Maurice Hawkins (120k) is the biggest name at table 3, but he's not the biggest stack. Stephen Reynolds (Little Egg Harbour, NJ) has 290k, while Andy Rosen (New York, NY) is at 260k and they're 1-2 in chips.

Hawkins is smack dab between them and doesn't mind being immediately to Reynolds' left, "I can just fold," he says, "If I was two or three seats to his left it would be tougher for me."

At table 12, Adam Gerber has a healthy 210k.

Other notables still in the field:

Gordon Eng
Jesse Yaginuma
Ian Palomo
Joanne Monteavaro
Gene Castro
Sirous Jamshidi
Mike Dentale
Bill Stradley
Ryan Eriquezzo
Mike Leah

Players are on a 10 minute break.

Dropping Like Flies

Championship Event

Down to 16 9-handed tables now, which means that 144 (or fewer) players remain. Here are some of the folks that are no longer with us:

Andrew Kloc

Al Riccobono
Roland Israel
Chris Reslock
Steve Dannenmann
Bo Toft
Al 'Sugar Bear' Barbieri
Vinh Nguyen
David Fox
Rick Rossetti
Todd Rebello
Ilias Barkoutsis

Among the ladies, Hakima Muhammad and Jaime Kerstetter have hit the bricks. There are still three ladies hanging on: Mary Shilale, Rosalyn Quarto, and Joanne Monteavaro.

Event 23: In the Poker Room

171 players begin the day looking for a Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship. Top prize will be more than $20,000, with 18 players cashing for a minimum of ~$1,000.

Yo Eleven!

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Matt Brady tangled up in a hand that extended into the break. Michael Meredith opened for 5k and Matt called. The flop came J 9 3 with two hearts. Michael led out for 7k. Matt tanked (into the break) then raised to 25,200. After some thought, Michael moved in for 38,250 total. Matt called the extra ~13k showing 87 of hearts for the flush draw with gutshot. Michael was ahead with pocket Queens. The last two came offsuit A K and Michael doubled up.

Matt Brady

The players took off for a break and it appears that Stephen Reynolds has taken the chip lead. He's up to ~290k. Jason 'Asian J' Min is up to ~240k. Ryan D'Angelo's got about 190k. Joseph Bowles is up to ~165k. Adam Gerber's stacking ~160k. Keith Crowder and Khasria Narinder both have roughly 152k.

Kevin Saul has lost significant ground. He tweeted "Old man raped my soul 3x.. 85.2k avg 69k". That old man he's referring to is Lenny 'The Silver Fox' Weissman.

After the break, play resumed with level 11, blinds 500/1,000 with 100 antes. About 160 players remain.

The Silver Fox Triples Up

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Kevin Saul raised to 15,800 from the middle, Dennis Frederick called from the small blind, then Lenny Weissman, aka "The Silver Fox" called all in for slightly less. There was a small side pot. The flop came J 3 2 with two hearts. Dennis checked, Kevin shoved, and Dennis folded. Kevin showed AK (Ace of Hearts) and collected the side pot. Lenny rolled over J8 of clubs for top pair. The last two came 4 3 and Lenny tripled up.

Lenny Weissman - The Silver Fox

On the turn with a board of A T 3 4, seat 1 shipped it for 13,175, then apparently did some Hollywooding. Keith Crowder (his only opponent) stood up and said "He gave me the act, man! I'm sitting here with two pair and he's making me want to fold. He gave me the act!". Keith managed to withstand the urge to fold and eventually made the call. Seat 1 held AJ for top pair, but like he said, Keith rolled over A4 for two pair. River was another Ace, filling Keith's boat. Seat 1 headed for the exit as Keith collected the pot.

Keith Crowder

Beasley Busted; Woods Washed Out

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

On a flop of J 9 8, Mike Beasley got his last 10k in the middle against Adam Junglen. Mike held 98 suited for two pair. Adam held T9 suited for one pair with open-ender. The river brought a Ten, giving Adam a better two-pair and the pot. Mike got the boot. Yeah, Mike, Aces Suck. But so do bottom-two-pair.

Mike Beasley with his Aces Suck hat

After the utg player raised, James Woods called, then Andrew Rosen 3-bet. The raiser folded and Woods called. The flop came K 5 3. Woods checked, Rosen bet and again Woods called. Turn was another King. Woods checked, Rosen bet, Woods moved all-in and Rosen called. Woods held pocket Queens and was in bad shape against AK (trip Kings). Only a Queen on the river would save the actor. The 2-outer didn't appear, however, and Woods reported to the rail.

Over on table two at about the same time, this big hand took place: On a flop of Q 6 4, Michael Katz bet, Alex Kuchik raised, Bernard Collins called, and Katz folded (later claimed pocket Aces). Turn was a 2 and the remaining two players got all the chips in the middle. Collins held pocket 6s for bottom set and Kuchik had pocket Queens for top set. The river was an Ace (remember what Katz folded?) and Kuchik took the pot. Collins was busted.

Another bizarre hand, back on table 3: on a flop of 9 7 3 -- all diamonds -- three players got all their chips in the middle. Greg Rudolph held pocket Kings. Stephen Reynolds held pocket Aces, (no diamond) and Woelfel Wade also held pocket Kings (with the King of diamonds). The last two came offsuit 2, then the 3 of diamonds, giving Wade the pot with the flush. Sahr was busted in the process.

That was the last hand of level 9 and players took a break. Play resumed with level 10, blinds 400/800 with 75 antes.

Guys Gone Wild in the Poker Room

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Back on table 7, there was a minor incident with a player folding out of turn. Adam Junglen and Igor Borukhov exchanged words, then Igor called on Adam to "step outside". Adam then removed his prosthetic leg and put it on the table. Understandably, this brought all conversation to a halt. Leave it to Steve Dannenmann to break the tension. "Isn't there a rule about taking off your leg at the table?" (We'll have to check the TDA handbook for that one.) Things have settled down back there and they're back to the business of playing poker.

To read Adam's own words about how he ended up with the prosthetic leg, check out his blog. In it he says "After sitting for 9-12hrs in big live events for example, I’m in extreme pain. On breaks, I quickly walk to my room just so I can take off my leg and relax for a few minutes. I’m far too insecure to take my leg off at the table. it’s just something I gotta deal with." That was written in 2007. I guess he's figured out how to deal with it.

Adam Junglen and Steve Dannenmann

Bobby Deppe just busted Robert Kalteux. Bobby flopped bottom set versus Robert's top two pair. Set good -- Bobby takes the chips.

On the river with a board of A 8 6 3 5 Adam Gerber (sb) fired a bet and Keith Crowder gave it some thought, then called. "Ace" said Adam. "Ace what?" asked Keith. Adam rolled over AQ and Keith mucked his hand.

Joseph Capalbi's table broke and he landed at table 11 with chip leader Kevin Saul. "Tough break" I said. "Bring it" Joseph replied. He's not intimidated sitting across the felt from a WPT title holder with more than $2 million in reported live tournament earnings. Of course he didn't know who Matt Glantz was when he busted Matt on day 1b, either. Sometimes ignorance IS bliss.

"I doubled up - there's no stopping me now" said Eric 'Clown Fish' Doerr. "Now I'll last until day 3 before I bust out".

Anthony Campagna's pocket Aces were good for a double-up through Stephen Reynolds, who held AQ.

Before I got finished typing this post, Joseph Capalbi came by to tell me he has busted out. Three tough hands in a row: pair with flush draw that didn't come, pocket Kings when an Ace flopped, then pocket Jacks run into pocket Aces. He's on the rail.

Break! New/Old Chip Leaders

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Level 8 is done and players are scattering for a ten-minute break.

Just before the break, Gordon Eng doubled his short-stack. He's now up to 32k.

As it happened late on day 1b, Kevin 'BeLOWaBOVe' Saul and Ryan 'g0lfa' D'Angelo are running one and two in chip counts. Kevin is up to ~190k and Ryan's got about 182k.

Kevin Saul

After the break, they will resume play with level 9, blinds 300/600 and 75 antes.

Tough Room

Championship Event
$3300 + $200 NL

Several players wasted no time getting their chips in the middle. Among those already dispatched are Dean Schultz, Han Oh, and Joe Simmons.

Maurice Hawkins flopped the nut straight and doubled up through a player with two pair and busted a player with a flush draw that didn't come through.

There are a couple of tables that are way above average for a random draw, as far as poker experience is concerned. Table 7 stands out as the toughest with Mike Beasley, Iam Palomo, Larry Goldstein, Adam Junglen, Steve Dannenmann, and Chris Reslock.

Table 7

Table 10 is another tough crowd. It includes Sirous Jamshidi, big stack Mary Shilale, Al 'Sugar Bear' Barbieri, Jeremy McLaughlin and Ray Shackelford.

Jeff 'Gorilla' Shurilla, Borgata Blog-Star, will be thrilled with the table draw as actor James Woods has drawn table 3, which is right here in front of our media table in the back of the Poker Room.
