Event 1: 3 Tables Left

Another table is down and now 27 players remain. Both remaining women Jue Wang & Cortney Scheiner are now at table 1, both are below the chip average of 1.1 million.

Also joining the table is Gene Castro (1.5 million) where he's seated between the spirited jousting of Mark Steinberg (2 million) & Joseph Capalbi (1.3 million).

Event 1: Win "Ben Stein's" 2.6 Million

Ben Stein

In two hands back to back Ben Stein (Long Island, NY) took every chip from his opponent and is now the chip leader with 2.6 million.

Hand 1: Ben has A-K under the gun with multiple callers to his raise. He leads out 130,000 on a flop of A-J-5. K-J makes it a heads up race committing all his chips. A-K holds for a 1.3 million gain.

Hand 2: Ben finishes same opponent off when his big blind K-10 wins the race against A-5 on a board of 4-K-4-3-6.

Event 1: Case-Sera Sera

Mark Steinberg

A hand for the ages.

Mark Steinberg limps with pocket aces and nobody calls.

Flop of Q-5-Q and big blind Baltimore Buzz Watkins simply checks.

Steinberg shoves and Buzz snap calls the death trap he set with Q-4. Someone announced they folded an ace once Steinberg tabled A-A. Both stand. Dealer peels off a card.

Steinberg shouts out BANG! BANG! as the case ace pounds the felt.

Steinberg doubles up and now has 1.5 million. Watkins is left terribly crippled.

What a rollercoaster ride for this guy. "No more limp biscuits" says Steinberg who admits he just got extremely lucky.

Event 2: Bubble Breaks

Valence the Victor

One hand after big stacks collide, the ripple effect causes the bubble to break in the $400 + $50 NL tournament.

Chris Valence (Hampstead, NH) from the SB calls the all-in short stack button shove. The BB also calls and the board runs out with nobody connecting for a pair. Valence's A 10 beats the BB's A8 to eliminate the button, leaving 27 players in the money.

The average stack is 105k, as all remaining players are guaranteed $829.

Level 15 (2k/4k/400 ante) is winding down.

Event 2: Power Struggle

Let it Ripp

Two of the biggest stacks in the Poker Room collide as the bubble watch continues with hand-for-hand play. We pick it up with a flop of 636 and Chris Valence (Hampstead, NH) leads out for 23k, Sean Ripp (Long Island, NY) calls from the button.

The turn is J and Valence, who begins the hand with 300k, leads again for 46k. Ripp, 250k to start the hand, reraises to 105k. Valence folds, prompting Ripp to show a 9♠.

The big hand swaps the balance of power giving Ripp the chip lead with 320k, but the bubble's still in tact.

For Ripp he's looking for another Borgata cash after finishing 4th in Event 2 of the Borgata Winter Open.

Event 1: Two Ladies Left

Cortney Scheiner

Jue Wang

Just two women left in the tournament, Jue Wang (Atlantic City, NJ) & Cortney Scheiner (Toronto, Canada).

Cortney has 970,000 and is beating Jue's short stack. But both women have obviously played well to make it this far.

Jue won her last tournament against 700 men eighteen years ago. I told her she's due. "If I can make it to the final table it would be unique".

Cortney is also gunning for the final table. "I want this final table as a birthday present." Scheiner's b-day occurs at midnight.

Courtney told me she played solid, tight-aggressive poker all day and admitted had a little luck too. Being the last woman standing means a lot to Courtney and she'd be proud to hold the title.

Good luck to both women.

Event 1: Goodby "Dalal"ly

Suraj Dalal has busted out in 40th place for $1,884.

He got his 750,000 in with A
K but was up against pocket aces. Flop of QJ6 provided some hope. A diamond on the turn provided additional outs but in the end the aces held.

Event 1: Family Man Vasquez Scores A Mil

The only thing David Vasquez (Brooklyn, NY) was thinking about when his Kings held up against A-K for a million dollar pot was his family - Brenden, Isabela, and Michael. "I was thinking about my kids. I'm doing all this for my family" said Vasquez.

Event 1: Sloat Hits The Rail in 51st

James Sloat (Fort Meade, MD) bet out 95,000 with pocket queens.

Joseph Capalbi ships his big stack all in with eights. James insta-calls the rest of his 440,000 and sees a flop of 6-6-7. He's still ahead on the turn when a 7 falls.

Only an eight can beat him now and of course that's what happened. River 8 knocks Sloat out of the tournament.

You can find James Sloat online where he's usually playing under his screen name mx4ever.

Event 1: Vassssup! Srinivasa is Up - Over A Million

Srinivasa Peyyalamitta

Srinivasa Peyyalamitta (Ashburn, VA) is quietly sitting on over a million chips. He started the day with only 159,000.

Notable hand was his K-K vs. 9-9.

Opponent flopped a set of nines but a river king gave Srinivasa his biggest pot of the day.

Event 1: Sick Flop

Mark Steinberg and Kenny Packer got into a sick 700,000 chip hand.

Kenny has J-10 and Mark has J-9.

"I made a mistake. I'm supposed to move him all in. It's raise or fold and I didn't do that" confessed Steinberg. The mistake was costly on a flop of 9-10-J. Both hit two pair.

Kenny doubles through Mark who survives and is ready to re-build.

Event 1: Gilly The Kid Survives

Incredibly, Gil "Gilly The Kid" Roden has survived 7 orbits and 5 all-ins since he was down to one chip.

The short stack journey kicked off with 4-10 off when he saved his tournament life when a ten spiked the river. Since then, Gil has survived every time he shoved.

It goes like this. Gil shoves - Gets called - Gil stands.
When he survives he yells something like, "Gilly survives it! or The Old Man Survives!"

The table can't believe it either. "I doubled him up four times. Me. Only me. It's less than the blinds to call. I'm like his personal ATM" said Joseph Capalbi.

How far can Gilly push it. He keeps climbing up the money ladder, that's for sure.

Event 1: 1.4 Million Leader On The Move - Literally

Chip Leader Ryan Wolfson and his 1.4 million chips has been moved to table 5.

Jared Hutt (Forked River, NJ) with 700,000 of his own joked with Wolfson. "We just hope he donks them all away."

Event 1: Random Thoughts

Former WSOP bracelet winner Mike "Little Man" Sica is still hanging on with 240k. "Tell everyone on the internet that I'm 66 years-old, on social security and a pension and need the money. Every (pay) level up means another day I can eat."

Sica's been moved to table 4 where Gene Castro has 1.1 million.

Jim Boyd (700k) and Eric Doerr (600k) are having a good time at table 3. "I've got 600 thousand and a chair," quips Doerr.

"When I've got nothing to say, that's a rarity," says Boyd, who shows a king to his opponent when he bets the flop of K Q Q.

Baltimore Buzz Watkins has a following back in B-more and is glad to be above the chip average with 600k.

Sica's also giving a shout out to his grandkids in New Brunswick, NJ.

Players are back from a 10 minute break and blinds are 12k/24k/3k ante. The average stack is 470k.

Event 1: A Lot of Outs = Out the Door

Kenny Schuyler finishes 65th for $1,295.

He shipped it short with A-4 of clubs and gets called by both Gene Castro and Weiwen Liang (Atlantic City, NJ) who both have pocket nines. Gene has Hellmuth's black 9-9 and Liang has red.

A club heavy flop of 5-2-4 gives Kenny hope. He improves his hand when the 7 of clubs hits the turn. But it wasn't meant to be for Schuyler as a non-five club is rivered sending him home in 65th place.

Gene and Weiwen chopped the 516,000 pot.

Event 1: Chip Leader At 1.7 Million

Ryan Wolfson has a huge three tiered stack of orange and gray chips giving him the unofficial Chip Leader status with 1.7 million.

I'd take a picture of the guy but he wants to wait until he wins it all to show his face. I can respect that.

Ryan was the chip leader from 1B yesterday.

Gene Castro is looking at a 1.1 million stack.

Event 2: Update

Stradley Studying the Field

44 players remain as Level 12 (1k/2k/300 ante) continues.

Phil Phan (Collingdale, PA) doubles through Bill Stradley (Strath Haven, PA) when his all-in shove with K 10 holds against Q 2. "It was only 7 thousand," says Stradley, who's at the chip average of 60k.

"I was up to 60 thousand," says Phan, "but I was bleeding chips, doubled a guy up and now have no choice, but to go all-in.

The top 27 cash as the bubble quickly approaches.

Event 1: Triple Up Time

George Cicak from New Jersey looked at one card and put his tournament life at stake. Two other players joined his all in building a nice side pot. So Cicak would triple up or go home.

His cards were A-10 up against A-8 and 9-9. The flop fell Q-9-6.

George would need runner runner for the win.

He turns a 7 and shouts out "where's the eight?". Imagine your entire life on a gut-shot prayer?

Most of the table is standing, waiting for the river.

BOOM he hits the eight for the runner runner straight. Cicak triples up from 89,000 up to 300,000.

Sometimes you just feel it. You just know when it's coming. By the way, the first card he looked at was not the eight.

Event 1: Chuck Bruder Busts Out 83rd

Chuck Bruder (Mechanicsville, MD) just received a pretty good one, two punch.

Hand 1 - Chuck shoves with A-K up against Q-Q. Jaimie Kerstetter gets out of the way with pocket tens. Queens hold up and cripple Bruder.

The very next hand Chuck gets it all in without looking - heads up against Jamie. "I have pocket tens again. Back to back." Chuck flips over 5-6 and sighs, "I'm dead". Flop is Q-A-4 all hearts. Turn is the six of diamonds giving Chuck some hope. River is another six. Chuck thinks he wins until table realizes it was a heart and Jaimie has the ten of hearts for the flush.

Bruder was gracious in his defeat praising Jamie's play all day and stating that he shoved with A-K because he was ready to race and wanted to win the entire tournament, not just make the money.

83rd place for Chuck Bruder.

Event 1 Back From Dinner Break

12 minutes left in level 20.

10 tables remaining. Average stack is 361,309.

84 players left.

Event 2: Flying Along

"Suits" Sticking Around

While a lot of attention is on Event 1 in The Signature Room, the players in Event 2 are doing serious work in the Poker Room.

285 players started in the $400 + $50 NL tournament and are now down to 54 players.

James "Suits" Salters (W Hempstead, NY) is noticing the mass exodus and says he's partly to blame. "They don't believe me," he says while fixing his sharply pressed tie. "I've been up and down all day," adding that his max has been 50k.

"I win a pot, some other guy takes it. I double up, and some other guy takes it. They don't believe me when I have it."

One player's hasty exit, literally cost him a chance to win the tournament. There's three way all-in action and the hands are 7 7, A 8, 8 8.

The board brings an ace and a 7, making the pocket eights the third best hand. "Can you believe I lost to both of them," says the white hooded player, as he quickly leaves the tournament area.

One problem. After counting the stacks, white hoodie had both players covered and still had 3,100 chips left. He ends up returning with just one big blind left, but learned a lesson: Don't leave until the counting is done!

Players are on a 40 minute dinner break.

Event 1: Million Dollar Man

Yat "10-3" Cheng

Yat Cheng (Atlanta, GA) just took down a 980,000 pot with 10-3 off-suit. You heard me! He raised 45,000 with it and the fun ensued.

Big blind called with Q-9 and was feeling very good with a flop of 3-Q-10. BB shoves and Yat calls. 10-3 two pair holds giving Cheng a grand total of 1.1 million chips making him among the chipleaders.

Gianni Arcuri with 850,000 (Staten Island, NY) is sitting to Yat's left. "He's been playing like that all day. Very aggressive" said Arcuri. "He could have anything. The 10-3 didn't surprise me."

Sidenote: Gianni says hi to his wife Caroline.

Event 1: John Myung - 95th Place

John Myung hung in all day and ended up shoving his last 133k in with A8 off, only to run into Taha Maruf's pocket Tens. No Ace appeared to save John and he was busted in 95th place, earning $942.

Down to 91 players now.

Event 1: Roy "The Natural" Gardner in 96th

Roy "The Natural" Gardner (Long Island, NY) was strategically folding and fighting his way to the money.

The good news is he reached that goal.

Roy just busted out in 96th place after his short stack shove of 40,000 fell short.
Gardner's K-Q lost to pocket nines.

Event 1: Level 20

Play has resumed with Level 20, blinds 8k/16k and 2k antes.

Event 1: 97 Players Remain

The atmosphere has definitely loosened up here in The Signature Room now that the bubble has burst. John Corning (Syracuse, NY) moved his last ~50k all-in, then Gil "Gilly the Kid" Roden (Baltimore, MD) moved in over the top. Everyone else opted out and John showed AK offsuit. Gil was ahead with pocket Kings, but was crushed when an Ace hit the flop. John doubled up and Gil was left with about 72k.

Level 19 concluded with 97 players still in the mix. They're now enjoying a ten minute break.

Event 1: Soft Bubble

Bubbling Over with Joy

With just five spots from the money, players scramble to every table that announces "all-in." Play is very tight as the short stacks try to hang on to the top 100.

After a couple of eliminations, the floor stops play to count heads and to everyone's surprise exactly 100 players remain. There's no hand for hand play, no "official" bubble-boy, but lots of celebration.

Shortly after the announcement, Justin Eldeiry (Manalapan, NJ) is smiling like the butcher's dog as the first player to cash.

"I made the money," he says with excitement, "at least I didn't bubble."

Eldeiry takes home $942 and all shorties are now shipping their stacks hoping to double up.

Level 19 (6k/12k/2k ante) is winding down.

Event 2: Payouts

$400 + $50 No Limit Hold'Em
Entries: 285
Total Buy-in: $114,000

Place-Amount

1 $33,174
2 $18,799
3 $10,339

7 $4,423
8 $3,317
9 $2,212
10-12 $1,438
13-15 $1,216
16-18 $996
19-27 $829

Event 1: Another Monster Table

Ryan Wolfson

I ran a quick check on the big stacks and another monster table has developed. Suraj Dalal has about 900k but is no longer in the lead. The player to his left, on the other side of the dealer, is now in the lead. That's Ryan Wolfson of Westbury, NY. Ryan's got about 1.1 million.

Tough beat for a player over on table 5. Action folded to the button who moved all-in for his last 32k. The small blind folded and the big blind decided he had to call the extra 20k with any two cards. Turns out he had J2 offsuit. The short-stack was ahead with K7 off, but the board was not kind to him; it came 8 5 2 Q A and the big blind took the pot.

104 players remain. The money bubble approaches!

Event 1: From 70,000 to 900,000 - The Gene Castro Story

PPI's Gene Castro

Poker Players International co-founder Gene Castro (New Jersey) began the day with 70,000 chips and has turned it into 900,000. His big hand?

Gene set it up after raising five hands in a row only to look down at pocket aces. He pops it 110,000 praying his fish takes the bait, pretty sure he was steaming from an incident occurring just one hand earlier.

Gene - "Karate Mike called the floor over and got this guy on tilt over a blind issue." Back to Gene's big hand - his fish ships it with only A-K and Gene's aces hold. "It was the perfect storm" said Gene. "I had a feeling he was angry. And he was really angry once I knocked him out."

Gene is pretty much sitting back now waiting to make some money claiming he'll fold to any re-raise. Take this with a grain of salt since I did get a wink and a nod out of him.

Blindturn of the Jedi

At this point in the tourney winning the blinds is crucial but winning your own blinds is also important.

Al "Jedi" Nepomnyaschiy at table six gives props to the player to his right. "I was in the big blind and he trapped me good last hand - I'll give him credit. He laid the chips in differently so I shoved with A-4." Small blind tabled A-A and doubled through Al.

The very next hand the force was with our Jedi friend as his 6-9 saw a flop of 3-6-3. With just the BB to beat, Al bet every street including 120,000 once he turned a 9. Big blind folded and Al flipped over his hand. BB - "I folded a six."

Event 1: Ladies working for the Lady

Cortney Scheiner

Cortney Scheiner of Sparta, NY was celebrating when her pocket Queens held up. She doubled up and is now stacking over 500k in chips.

Cortney is one of only three ladies remaining in this event and has the largest stack of the three.

Pat Rush (Glen Burnie, MD) doubled his ~70k stack when he got all-in pre-flop and called by Mark Steinberg. Pat's AK off held up against Mark's A9 off.

On the river with a board of A 8 2 9 T Suraj Dalal bet 45k. The player in seat 1 tanked for a bit, then made the tough call with pocket Kings. Suraj showed QJ offsuit for the runner-runner straight to take the pot. Seat 1's stack was crippled and busted out soon after.

Mark Steinberg is having a rough level. He raised to 48k utg+1 and everyone folded around to Joseph Capalbi (Brooklyn, NY) in the small blind. Joseph thought for a bit, then raised another 100k on top. Mark made the call and the flop came 4 4 2. Joseph announced he was all-in. Mark folded.

Level 18 came to an end and play continued into Level 19 with 6k/12k blinds, 2k antes.

Event 1: Battle of the Bouroughs

Nick Oliveri

The utg+1 player moved in for 88k and after some thought, Allen Chang (Brooklyn, NY) tanked for a couple of minutes, then called. Nick Oliveri (Staten Island, NY) then moved in over the top. Action folded back to Allen, who asked for the count. It was another 140k back to him. He counted out the chips and then counted what he had left. After a couple of minutes, he opted to fold.

Seat 3 held A9 off and was dominated by Nick's AK off. The board came completely dry: T 6 2 T J and Nick took the pot. Allen lamented that he folded pocket 9s, which would have been the winner.

Seat 6 opened for 25k and Mark Steinberg called from the button. The flop came J 7 6 with two clubs. Seat 6 checked and Mark moved all-in. That was good enough to claim the pot.

Mike "Little Man" Sica's pocket Aces held up and he has doubled to about 320k.

About 122 players remain. Only 100 get paid.

Event 2: Monster Man

Singh-ing a Sweet Tune

"Did you get a hold of the chip cart," asks a stunned player, who's just been moved to table 3. That's the reaction Rohan Singh's getting about his monster stack.

Singh (Ozone Park, NY) has 178k as Event #2 is only on Level 7 (300/600/75 ante).

"He thought it was a bounty tournament," says another player. "He's knocked out about 20 guys." Singh puts the actual number at 12 eliminations, with the biggest haul coming in a 60k pot.

Singh raises preflop with A 8 and gets one caller going to the flop of A A 3. All the money gets in with Singh way ahead of K K and his trip aces hold.

"I'm not going to sit on it," Singh says referring to his chip stack. "I'm not catching cards, I'm the chip leader and just pushing the small guys out."

Singh's a Borgata regular and has a few final tables in daily tournaments, but is looking for his first cash in a Borgata Open, "My goal in any tournament is to come out #1," he says while his mountain of chips continues to grow.

Event 1: Do You Know The Muffin Man?

Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo

22 year old baking distributor owner Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo has a Long Island accent as thick as molasses.

Just watched Muffins send a man three times his age to the rail when Matt's A-8 of spades held up to the A-2 shove.

The kid had to sweat a deuce in the window but started hollering the second his man hit fourth street. Board reads - 5-3-2-8-5

With that pot Matt's now up to 300,000.

Event 1: Level 18 Underway

500 dollar purple chips are off the table as Borgata colored up during the break.

Everyone has settled back into their Signature Room seats as Event 1 begins Level 18.

5000 / 10,000 blinds - 1000 antes.

16 tables - 137 players remain.

Average stack is 210,000.

Event 1: Stack Check

Mike "Little Man" Sica

John Myung has been working his short stack very hard today. After starting with almost 90k, he dropped as low as about 30k, and is now up to about 125k.

Gregory Bock has been on a similar roller-coaster ride. He began the day third in chips with 317k and after a couple of levels was down to only 52k. He's back on top of a comfortable 360k stack. Most of his gains were from grinding, but he said he caught a lucky double-up when he got all-in with A5 against pocket Tens. He caught an Ace on the flop and another on the turn.

Mike "Little Man" Sica has also been working hard today. He started the day with 124k and has managed to grind his way up to 162k.

Level 17 has concluded and players are taking a break. About 140 players remain putting the average at a bit over 215k.

Event 1: Monster Table

Mark Steinberg - DEALER- Suraj Dalal

Table 17 is leaning towards one side. That's because Suraj Dalal (Bethlehem, PA) has 800,000 and Mark Steinberg (Woodmere, NY) is stacking up 500,000.

The dealer innocently sits between these two giants.

Mark earned most of his chips rivering a flush.

I asked Mark and Suraj about both having two monster stacks at the same table. Mark - "I'll mostly avoid the big stack then try to isolate and decapitate one at a time. Pick the fights you know you can win."

Right after saying this he picked a blind battle with Suraj raising his big blind. Mark's sb flopped two pair with K-4 but Suraj didn't take the bait after suspicious checks.

Suraj - "I'm just waiting for the cards. I'm not effected by the other stacks."

Before I left Steinberg whispered to me, "I'm the bully at this table."

Event 1: Siegel Flocked

Jonathan Klein

On a flop of T 7 3, Eric Siegel (Melville, NY) got all-in against Jonathan Klein (Amityville, NY). Eric held 87 suited for a pair of 7s and was crushing Jonathan's pocket 6s. Not for long, however, as the turn brought the third 6 giving Jonathan a set and a crushing lead. River was a brick and Eric was done and dusted. Jonathan chipped up to about 150k.

About 150 players remain.

Event #1: Under The Radar No More

Taha Maruf (Bronx, NY)

Taha Maruf (Bronx, NY) has slipped under the radar until now.

He's up to 400,000 after sending a player home in a monster pot last level.

Taha's A-K hit the flop hard and demolished his opponent's 5-5.

He began the day with 124,000 and has been at table 15 throughout. "I like that there's another big stack to my right" said Maruf. That big stack dusted off 20% during our interview when his J-J fell short to a short stack with a set of eights.

It's always fun when the guy with the worst hand pre-flop starts chirping after he wins.

Event 1: Blinds Are Up, Again

Play continues into Level 17 with blinds of 4k/8k with 500 antes. 179 players remain, making the average stack about 170k.

Only the final 100 will get paid, so it is crunch time for the short-stacks.

Event 1: He Who Fires, Wins

Adam Shuvall (New York, NY) scoops a nice pot at table 18 with pocket eights.

Board of K-10-Q-10 (two hearts) freezes everyone except Adam who fires out 26,000. Pocket nines folds and the third member of the hand tanks, then stands, then scratches his head, then sits, then folds.

With that 100,000 pot Shuvall is up to 200,000.

Event 2: Numbers

Update from the Poker Room has approximately 285 players in the field (official numbers coming soon), with 190 remaining.

The feature group is table 10 in the tournament area and features Ryan Eriquezzo (New Haven, CT) and Howard Wolper (Atlantic City, NJ) who are side by side and Borgata title holders.

"I'm getting hit by the deck," says Eriquezzo, who's taken his starting stack of 10k to 50k. He adds that the table's a revolving door and that only 4 players remain from the start of the day.

Level 6 (200/400/50 ante) is underway.

Event 1: Overkill

David Nourmand

Seat 7 got his last ~70k in and was hoping for a double-up when he learned his pocket Jacks were ahead of David Nourmand's (Syosset, NJ) pocket Tens. However, the dealer rolled out the board cards T T 7 7 2, giving David quadzilla on the flop and kicking another player to the curb.

Another table has broken leaving 22 tables and fewer than 198 players.

Event 1: 207 Players Remain

The color-up caused an extended break, but all the players are now in The Signature Room and all the black chips are off the tables. 23 tables are in play, which means approximately 207 players remain. That makes the average stack around 146k.

Level 16: Blinds 3k/6k with 500 antes.

Cards are flying again which means the chips will follow shortly!

Event 1: Break Time!

Level 15 has ended, thankfully, and players are scattering for a 15 minute break. They will be coloring up the black 100 chips during this break and I believe they will also be moving the last players over from the Poker Room, since there are 5 empty tables now in the Signature Room.

Suraj Dalal

Looks like Suraj Dalal (Bethlehem, PA) is the chip leader. He's currently stacking about 655k.

Event 1: The Beats Go On

Jeff Benhart (Luthersville, MD) made the desperation shove from the two-hole, then the player in the three-hole shoved his slightly smaller stack. Action folded to the small blind, who tanked for a couple of minutes. When he decided to call, Jeff said "I knew you had AK when you tanked and knew I was in trouble". Sure enough, the small blind held AK suited and was dominating Jeff's KQ off. The third player was actually ahead with pocket Tens, but would have to fade three overcards.

The board rolled out K536J and the river card saved Jeff, giving him a spade flush since he held the Q. Jeff tripled up on that hand and another player reported to the rail.

John Myung (not tweeting)

Back on table 13, John Myung (Vienna, VA) open-raised from utg+1 only to have seat 6 (button) move all-in, then Roy "The Natural" Gardner (Huntington Station, NY) move all-in from the big blind. John tanked for a couple of minutes, then surrendered. Seat 6 held AJ suited and was in bad shape against Roy's pocket Aces. The board came Q T 9 Q 7 and Roy's Aces were good. "Why didn't you call?" he asked John. "You want me to call?" John said "I call, I win". John apparently folded pocket Tens, which would have resulted in a full house.

There are still 4 tables in the Poker Room and we have three empty tables here in The Signature Room. That makes 26 tables in action with 9 or fewer players each.

Event 1: Blinds Are Up

Play continues into Level 15, Blinds 2k/4k with 400 antes.

Tables have switched to 9-handed play and players are slowly being moved over from the last few tables in the poker room.

Event 1: Big Stacks Get Bigger

Michael Johnson

On a K T 7 flop, Vincenzo Porta (Jersey City) was all-in against Michael Johnson (Pittsburgh, PA). Vincenzo thought his KJ (top pair) was good, but Michael held T7 for two pair. The last two were blanks and Vincenzo was a goner.

Michael has continued to run over his table and is now up to about 310k.

Kerry Small (Ventnor City, NJ) doubled up when he got all-in on an A 3 2 flop. His opponent held AJ for top pair, but Kerry held AK for top pair with boss kicker.

On a board of J 7 7 9, Vinny Pahuja moved all-in, putting James Ware (Philadelphia, PA) to the test. After a bit of thought, James called, showing pocket 4s. Vinny was caught bluffing with KQ suited (nothing but a gutshot). River was a 5 and after the count-down, Vinny was covered and busted. James is now over 200k.

Event 1: That Didn't Take Long

Peter "Lucky" Chiarulli

Semir Sulejmani of Wayne, NJ, got all-in pre-flop and called by Peter Chiarulli of Brooklyn, NY. Semir's pocket Jacks were in bad shape against Peter's pocket Kings. Then a third King hit the flop, leaving Semir dead to running Jacks. No such miracle occurred and Semir was dispatched to the rail. Peter chipped up to about 225k.

Vinny Pahuja (Hicksville, NY) doubled up to about 160k on the first hand today.

Over on table 2, there was a 3-way pre-flop all-in. Eric Cleaveland (Morrisville, PA) was all-in with pocket fives, John Corsi (Northville, MI) was all-in with pocket Kings, and Charles Bruder (Mechanicsville, MD) held the boss pair, pocket Aces, and had the other two covered. The board ran dry and the Aces held, sending two more players to the rail.

The cries of "All In" seem to be quickly followed by "Seat Open". No idea how many have busted already, but they're dropping like flies.

Event 1: Day 2 Underway

There was a bit of a delay getting cards in the air due to a shortage of dealers. Those issues have been resolved and play has begun.

Level 14: Blinds 1,500/3,000 with 400 antes.

293 players have returned to continue the hunt for the top prize of $127,060. The final 100 players will get paid, so about two out of three will leave with nothing but memories (and bad beat stories no doubt).

Event 2: Aces Cracked

Rick Fogliano

On a flop of Q 8 5, Rick Fogliano (Middletown, NJ) had his opponent right where he wanted her. She was all-in holding pocket Aces and trailing Rick's Q8 suited (two pair). The last two cards came J 8, giving Rick an entirely unnecessary full house for the over-kill. The nice lady in seat 5 was busted. Rick chipped up to about 20k, double his starting stack.

They're currently playing in Level 2 with 50/100 blinds.

Event 2 Underway

Cards are in the air for Event #2, $400 Buy-In No Limit Hold'em. There was a short line at registration just before 11 am, but no more. Late registrations will be accepted through the first two levels. This is a one day event and they will play until one player has all the chips.

Players began with 10,000 chips and levels last 40 minutes.

Level 1 began with 25/50 blinds.

Chris Reslock

Among the players today are many that did not survive the action yesterday in event #1, including Olga & Robert Varkonyi, Gordon Eng, Dean Schultz, and Paul Spitzberg. New names I spotted this morning are WSOP bracelet holder Chris Reslock, (who won his bracelet at the 2007 WSOP playing 7-Card stud) and Davidson Matthew, best known for his 2nd place finish in the 2006 WPT Championship ($1.9 million).
