Event 15: Z Man

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

RunZing Good

Dave Zeitlin (Brooklyn, NY) is one player the field doesn't want to see with chips. The man with 35 career cashes and more than $1,000,000 in career earnings is among the top ten in chips with 360k.

"I wish I could say I was playing awesome," he says, "but I'm just running awesome." Zeitlin takes down a 90k pot preflop with a strong reraise with pocket aces. He also flopped a set of deuces for another healthy haul.

Level 16 (3k/6k/500 ante) winding down.

Event 15: The Gang's All Here

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

There were more than 50 tables spread throughout the Poker Room, now it's down to nine as all remaining players are in the tournament area of the room.

87 players remain with an average stack of 144k as the money is now within sight.

Level 16 (3k/6k/500 ante) continues, as one player says, "3-6, but no cards."

Event 15: Redemption

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

After Scott Strubel's self admitted Event 1 epic meltdown, the Woodbridge, NJ resident is already bouncing back in the inaugural Spring Open. He cashed in Saturday's Event 12 - $5,000 Survivor tournament and is trying to finish in the money again.

"I didn't learn just one thing," says Strubel, "I learned five or six." This after blowing 350k worth of chips in the first Deep Stack, failing to make Day 2.

Strubel's been bouncing between 90 and 120k, but can't get over the hump. "I'll be happy if I cash," he says as we're 47 players from the bubble.

102 players remain (54 cash) with an average stack of 123k.

Level 15 (2k/4k/400 ante) continues.

Event: 15: AK Hurting JY

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Jason Young says he's having the, "swingiest day ever." The WSOP Bracelet winner has been as high as 150k, but recently dropped to 40k.

Twice AK has been unkind for JY. The first time he has a hammer lock on the hand, but instead of taking his stack to 275k, the hand ends in a chop. A little later his ace-king runs into aces, dropping him to 80k.

Level 14 (1,500/3k/400 ante) continues.

Event 15: Level Change

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

As the field blinds go up, the field shrinks (funny how that works).

Level 13 (1,200/2,400) is underway.

Event 15: Top, Top - No Good

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Grippo Continues to Grind

With more than 150 players from the money, players are grinding. One player's all in shove with top pair, top kicker is no good and Diane Grippo (Holbrook, NY) takes advantage.

The board is J 8 3 and Grippo's opponent shoves for 25k. Grippo calls with pocket 8s and her set is way ahead of A J, which doesn't catch up. Grippo's now close to 100k, while top, top is bye-bye.

This table is one that believes in the "Blogger Curse" and Jamie Kerstetter (Monroe Twp., NJ) says, "I keep paying him (Gorilla) to come over." Her hope is that players featured in the blog eventually crash and burn.

Level 12 (1k/2k/300 ante) is underway with 19 tables remaining.

Event 15: Back From Break

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

209 players remain with an average stack of 60k. Players are back in the middle of Level 11 (800/1,600/200 ante) and play continues until 2 am or 18 players, which ever comes first.

Either way, we're expecting a late night.

Event 15: Notable Chip Stacks

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

As dinner break continues, a scan of stacks reveal the following stacks.

Jason Young 150k
Bradley Utz 62k
Howard Wolper 60k
Sheree Bykofsy 55k
Tuan Gbehan 25k
Dave Fox 23k

Event 15: $1-$2 Table = Huge Pot

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

DePasquale Destroys Two Players

It's fitting that this Deep Stack tournament started with tables along side cash games across the Poker Room. Because somewhere along the way a $1-$2 game broke out in the tournament and Bob DePasquale (Randolph, NJ) reaps the benefits.

At an 8 handed table, everyone limps to DePasquale in SB who completes, followed by a BB check and family pot.

Flop: A 7 5

DePasquale leads out for 10k, UTG calls, MP makes it 21k. DePasquale shoves all in for 130k and has both remaining players covered, both call.

DePasquale: 7 7 (middle set)
UTG: A 9 (pair of aces, nut flush draw)
MP: 55 (bottom set)

The board runs clean for DePasquale and his set of 7s hold for a 325k pot. "Very unusual," says Depasquale, referring to an 8 way limped pot on the last hand of Level 10 (600/1,200/200 ante).

"Of course I'm worried that someone could draw out on me, but I've got the best hand at the time and you take your chances," he says. DePasquale is the unofficial chip leader at the dinner break with 344k.

Event 15: Chow Time

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

The players are on a 50 minute dinner break. A little more than 200 players remain from the starting field of 501.

Bob DePasquale (Randolph, NJ) is the unofficial big stack with 344k.

Event 15: Breaking it Down

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Players are getting antsy after seven hours of play. The most common question to Media Row: "Do you know how many are left?"

Head counts and big stacks will be updated during the dinner break which is at 7 pm.

The field is on a 10 minute break, returns for a few minutes of play and then can hit the dinner reservations at the top of the hour.

Event 15: What's on your iPod?

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Hill, Bui & Aguilera (l-r)

After hearing endless stories of how the short stacks double to 20k, why pocket jacks never win and that the Blogger's curse is in full effect ("Right after you took my picture, I was crippled!"). It's time to reach into the bag of tricks and play, What's on your iPod?

Level 10 (800/1600/200 ante) winding down

Event 15: Chip Stacking

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Bock is Back

After cashing in the Event 1 Deep Stack, Gregory Bock (Unionville, NJ) is building an impressive tower. "I'm not getting a lot pocket pairs," he says with 157k at the color up break. "I'm turning jack-ten and ace-king into straights and flushes."

Bock was up to close to 200k, but lost 25k to Paul "Aces" Goray (Baltimore, Md) who's had pocket aces three times during the last level. "Pretty good, right?" he says with a smile.

Goray was down to 9k, but has doubled twice with the pocket rockets and is now at 49k.

Level 9 (500/1k/100 ante) is underway as all the green 25 chips are off the table.

Event 15: Father & Son Poker

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Fathers and Sons do lots of activities together. Little League sports, fishing, hunting, camping...but here at Borgata, today is Father & Son poker day. WSOP bracelet holder Jason Young and his father Scott both entered today's Deep stack event. Despite the 'random' way they assign seats, both ended up at the same table today. (I'll let you figure out which is which.)

They've been in action for almost 5 hours already and both are still hanging on.

Scott and Jason Young

Event 14: Seniors Champion - James Boyd

Donald Brown - 2nd -place - $10,418

Werner Muller - 3rd place - $5,730

Event 15: Quads Giveth....

$500 + $60 NL Deep Stack

Yaser's Yo-Yo Day

...and quads taketh away. Yaser Al-Keliddar (Baltimore, MD) has K K and gets an "e-hell" of a flop when it comes down K♠ K♣ 3.

Al-Keliddar slow plays it too perfection, checking the river and getting his opponent to shove 17k. "I beat him into the pot," he says, as he takes his stack to 50k.

A few levels later Al-Keliddar is the victim of quads on a board of A 9 9 3 9. Lisa VanLandingham (Nashville, TN) bets 6k on the river and Al-Keliddar sees that pair of aces is no good to VanLandingham's J 9.

"I've played horribly," Al-Keliddar says, looking down at 18k. "But I'm determined to double-up."

VanLandingham has a good track record at Borgata, especially in Omaha, (Winter Open, 4th PLO) and is now at 35k. Omaha

Level 8 (400/800/75 ante) continues.

Event 14: 7th place - Patel

$260 + $40 Seniors NL

On a flop of 8 7 2, Ratilal Patel moved all in from the small blind and Adam Varrenti called all-in, showing 87 suited for two pair. Ratilal held AT off for Ace-high with two overs. The last two came 5 A but it was not enough. Adam doubled up and Ratilal was left with only 24k.

A few hands later Ratilal put his last 22k in from the cutoff and both blinds called. They checked the board of 9 8 4 3 6 until the river when Mitch Jones moved in and James Boyd folded. Ratilal held A6 suited for a pair of 6s, but Mitch held 98 for two pair to take the pot.

Ratilal Patel (New Hyde Park, NY) finished in 7th place, earning $2,451.

Ratilal Patel - 7th place

That was the last hand of the level. Blinds are now 10k/20k with 400 antes.

Event 14: 8th place - Machate

Joseph Machate finished in 8th place, earning $1,839.

Joseph Machate - 8th place

Event 14: 13th - Diehl; 12th - Lametta

$260 + $40 Seniors NL

Peter Lametta got all in with AQ, Ken Diehl (York, PA) got all in with AJ, and Edward Newman had both of them covered with more chips and smother with pocket Kings. The board ran dry and two players were eliminated on the same hand.

Peter Lametta started the hand with more chips, so he finished 12th, earning $796. Ken Diehl finished 13th, earning $674.

Peter Lametta - 12th place

Kenneth Diehl - 13th place

Event 14: 14th place - Disalvo

$260 + $40 Seniors NL

Play resumed after the break with level 18, blinds 5k/10k and 1k antes.

Ratilal Patel opened for 21k, Peter Lametta moved all in from the small blind, then Ken Diehl put his last 22k in from the big blind. Ratilal opted out and Peter showed pocket Tens. He was ahead of Ken's A suited, but the board brought A J 9 8 2 giving Ken two pair and the triple-up.

Mitch Jones opened for 35k from the hijack, Werner Muller moved all-in from the cutoff and Craig Disalvo then moved all-in from the small blind. Mitch thought about it, then open-mucked his pocket Tens. Werner held AJ offsuit and Craig was out in front with pocket Queens.

The flop came A Q 8 giving Craig a set of Queens and extending his lead. Turn was a Ten, which would have given Mitch a useless set of Tens, then the river delivered a King, giving Werner the Broadway straight and busting Craig.

Leonard Craig Disalvo - 14th place

Craig headed for the door, without picking up his payout (14th) slip. Then he came back, picked up his bag and his Redbull, and headed back out the door, again ignoring the floorperson and not picking up his payout slip. Nevertheless, he finished 14th and the Borgata will be holding his $674 should he ever return.

On the other table, Edward Newman got all-in, then Donald Brown moved in over the top. Edward's AJ suited was racing against Donald's pocket 7s. The board came A K J 9 T and Edward doubled up with two pair.

Patel Setting the Pace

Because of all the action in The Signature Room, the Seniors took a back seat and the bubble broke without much fan fare. The Seniors action in the Poker Room was fast and furious as they played down to 18 players by 12:30 am.
