Bad Beat, Bad Beat, Bad Beat!
The roar in the back of the poker room is from a $5-$10 NL cash game where the Bad Beat Jackpot is hit for $151,303. The big winner is Curtis "Chip" Langdon (Jersey City, NJ) who's quad 5s loses to Matt White's (Arlington, VA) quad jacks.
"When he called my all-in, I asked 'you got it,'" says Langdon, who wins $60,525 for losing the hand "and the next thing I know everyone's screaming and yelling."
For winning the hand and providing the bad beat White collects $30,262, while the six remaining players at the table each take home $10,086. "We went nuts," says White, who plays anything from $2-$5 to $25-$50 NL at Borgata. "It (the BBJ) never crossed my mind, I was just trying to get all the money."
White has J♠ J♥ vs. Langdon's 5♥ 5♦.
The flop is 5♣ J♦ 5♠, giving Langdon quads and White a full house.
The money card is the J♣ on the turn, while the river is the 4♠.
Langdon leads out for $400 on the river, White reraises to $1,275, Langdon shoves all-in and White snap calls to win a $5k pot.
"I think I'll play in a couple of tournaments after this," says Langdon who's been strictly a cash player at Borgata since 2004.
Coincidentally, Langdon played in his first tournament last Wednesday in the $15k guarantee. So look for him playing in a Borgata Spring Poker Open tournament sometime in the next two weeks.
