Event 13: Ladies on Dinner
$215 + $35 Ladies NL
The Ladies finished a level and went on dinner at about 6:50 pm. They've got 40 minutes, so play will resume at about 7:30pm.
Guyana Petrossian has chipped up to about 100k. Jennifer Keys is still doing well with about 110k. It appears we have a new chip leader on table two, seat 5, who has about 120k.

Event 14: Senior Leaders
$260 + $40 Seniors NL
The Seniors were on a break so I took the opportunity to eyeball their chip stacks.
Adam Varrenti, Jr (West Chester, PA) is the chip leader with 75k. Two seats to his left is Morris Husarsky (Brooklyn, NY) who is second in chips wit ~70k. Two seats to his left is Jay Johnson, who has about 65k. Funny how all the chips have ended up on the same table (table 2).
The returned from break to level 9, blinds 500/1,000 with 100 antes.
Over on table 7, WSOP bracelet holder Charlie Brahmi, got his last 12k all-in and got no takers. He showed pocket 8s as he collected his pot.

$215 + $35 Ladies NL
The last man sitting was all-in against two ladies. On the river, the board read J T 3 A 7 with three diamonds and one lady bet 8k into the dry side pot. Guyana Petrossian (Manhattan, NY) made the call, asking "Flush?". Her opponent shook her head and Guyana showed KJ of spades for a pair of Jacks. The other lady mucked and Guyana collected the side pot.
When the man also mucked his hand, Guyana was awarded the main pot also. He was rewarded with a round of applause as he exited The Signature Room. Guyana is up to about 48k after that hand.
"And don't come back" said TD Tab Duchateau on the PA system. The Ladies got a chuckle out of that.
Dianna Sopala (Fairlawn, NJ) is up to ~80k.
Jamie M. (Linwood, NJ) is up to ~109k.
Jennifer Keys is still the chip leader with ~114k.
Another table has broken and they are down to four tables with 36 ladies. They're just returning from break for Level 13, blinds of 1,500/3,000 with 300 antes.

Event 13: Chip Leader to Chip-less
$215 + $35 Ladies NL
Ming Li, who was the chip leader on my earlier pass, is now gone. Two new faces have emerged with lots of chips.
Marcia Kuntz (Tacoma Park, MD) is above 80k now.
On the next table over, Jennifer Keys (Norristown, PA) made a tough laydown. On a flop of T 9 8 -- all hearts -- she led out for 5,500. Her opponent in the small blind moved all-in for 19,500 more. Jennifer tanked for a bit, then open-mucked her 87 offsuit -- bottom pair with the 7 of hearts for the open-ended straight flush draw. Even after surrendering that pot, Jennifer had about 80k.
Five tables remain; 43 Ladies and one guy are still in action.

Terry Tallon of Boyertown, PA is second with about 53k.

A loud cheer went up from the room as one of the remaining guys stood up to leave. Apparently he open-shoved for 8,825 utg+1 and Helene Strafford (Holdbrook, NJ) looked him up with pocket Jacks. He was holding 87 of spades. The flop came 8 7 x with three hearts, giving the guy two pair but giving Helene a flush draw with the Jack of Hearts. Turn was a 9, which gave Helene more outs with a straight-draw. River was a Ten, completing the straight and shipping the pot to Helene.
The busted guy was applauded as he donned his jacket and headed out the door. There is still one more guy in action among all these ladies.
"Sometimes Aces hold up" said Debbie Troncone (Monroe TWP, NJ) across the room as she was collecting her chips.
They are down to Ten tables, so fewer than 100 players remain.

The Seniors got underway shortly after noon in the Poker Room and just took their second break. They started with 10,000 chips and 40 minute levels.
After four levels of play, Tony "the Original Gorilla" Shurilla (father of Borgata blogger Jeff "Gorilla" Shurilla) reports he's down to 8,500 chips. He got caught holding the under-full, beat by a bigger boat. He then picked up some chips with a big blind special, holding K3 and flopping two Kings.
"How long did it take you to figure out this was a Seniors event?" said one player, as he looked out over the field of gray-haired players. 242 Seniors entered this event.
Play resumed after the break with Level 5, blinds 150/300 and 25 antes.

Rowe's Return
Last year Nicole Rowe (New Windsor, NY) was in the middle of a well documented controversy in the September, 2009 Borgata Poker Open. Since her Ladies Event second place finish, she's battled breast cancer and is now back at the felt.
Rowe's run in Sunday's Spring Poker Open Ladies Event is short lived, as she's crippled twice by the player who hits quads twice during the opening levels. But Rowe's upbeat spirit and positive outlook keeps her focused and she's right back at it for the Seniors Event, which she entered one hour late.
"I've gotten a second chance in life and today I'm getting a second chance on poker," she says while sporting a new look bright pink hairdo. "And I'm using both to my advantage."
You can follow Rowe's battle with the "Big C," as she calls it, on her blog at Nicoleswalkinthepark.

Just as play was resuming, however, Jamie collected a pot with AK, so I'm going to declare her the chip leader for now.
Jamie has over $64k in tournament earnings to her credit with a win in the Trump Taj Mahal New Year's Mega Stack $300 No Limit event last a few months ago.

Former chip leader Sam Eliacin (Garden City, NY) shoved his last 100k in and got looked up by Brett Rhode, who held pocket Kings. Sam's A9 was unable to match up with the board and he was sent packing in 20th place ($1,499).

Scott McDonald (Guilford, CT) busted out in 25th place.
Norman Rodriguez (Pensacola, FL) got his pocket Queens busted by AK and finished 24th.

All three of these finishers took home $1,499.

In a battle of the blinds, Andrew Kloc (sb) and Michael Pizzarella (bb) saw a flop of 9 8 2. Andrew bet, Michael shoved, (~60k) and Andrew called, showing pocket Kings. Michael was trailing with 83 (I don't make this stuff up folks) for a pair of 8s, but the last two came 7 8 and Michael rivered trip 8s to take the pot and double up.
A couple of hands later, Phil Phan (Collingdale, PA) limped, Andrew moved all-in for ~14k, then seat 2 moved all-in over the top. Phil thought about it for a bit, then called all-in for 49,700. Andrew had A6 suited; seat 2 had pocket Tens, and Phil had pocket 7s. The board came Q J 7 6 4 and Phil took the pot with a set of 7s. Andrew was busted.
Andrew Kloc finished 27th for $1,499.
Michael Perlin busted out at another table, finishing 26th for $1,499.
On the third table, the two chip leaders tangled. Sam Eliacin raised and Chris Lindh called. Flop came T 9 7 rainbow. Chris check-called Sam's bet. Turn was a Queen and again Chris check-called Sam's 45k bet. River was a 6 and the third spade on board. Chris checked, Sam bet 60k, and Chris called. Sam held AQ for top/top. Chris held T9 for two pair to take the pot. He's now cleared the 400k mark. Sam was left with about 125k.
Play continued into Level 15, Blinds 2k/4k with 400 antes.
Event 11: In the Money!
$1,000 + $90 NL
After action folded to the small blind, he moved his short-stack all-in (about 22k). Sam Eliacin was in the big blind and called, showing Q9 of clubs. The small blind held AJ -- of clubs. The board came club-free however. The flop was JT9 giving the short-stack a pair of Jacks and giving Sam a pair of 9s. Turn was a 3 and changed nothing, but the river was a Queen, giving Sam two pair and the pot. The short-stack became this event's bubble-boy, finishing 28th.
They broke a table so now have three tables of nine players.
Then decided to take a break with 18:45 remaining in the level. The final 27 will come back in ten minutes and continue play until 2am.
Chris Lindh (Brooklyn, NY) has taken the chip lead. He's got about 300k. Sam Eliacin is second with about 289k

Seat 5 was very short and moved all-in. Several players called to see the flop of 7♥6♥2♣. Michael Perlin led out for 16k, then William Loonstyn (Philladelphia, PA) moved all in for 43,900. Seat 4 tanked for a bit, then opted to call all-in for a bit less. Now it was Michael's turn in the tank. He finally decided to call and they all tabled their hands (from shortest stack to biggest stack):
Seat 5: J♣J♠
Seat 4: Q♥T♥ (flush draw)
William: 7♦7♠ (set of 7s)
Michael: J♥9♥ (useless flush draw)
The last two came K♣A♣ and both seats 4 & 5 were busted. William more than tripled up.
28 players remain, which means it is bubble time! They are now playing hand-for-hand until one more player busts.

Bob Hwang opened for 6,400 and Michael Perlin (Queens, NY) called from the small blind. The flop came A♦Q♥7♥ and Michael checked. Bon fired 6,600 and Michael called. Turn was the scary 2♥ and both players checked. River was the 9♠ and Michael bet 13k. Bob folded. Michael showed the J♣T♣ (zip, zilch, nada) bluff as he collected his pot.
Earlier tonight, Joe Simmons yelled across the room at the cocktail waitress, "Are those real?". Despite what everyone assumed, however, he was not referring to her ample assets, but rather the Long Island Iced Teas she was serving.
Another level is history. Play continues with level 14, blinds 1,500/3,000 with 400 antes.
31 players remain.

Event 11: Pizzarella on Fire; Fox Burned
$1,000 + $90 NL
Michael Pizzarella (Worcester, MA) got his last 13k all-in, getting action from Andrew Kloc, who held A5. Michael's pocket Queens were ahead, but not too comfortable. It was over quickly as the flop came Q Q 3 giving Michael quadzilla and the double-up.
Soon after, Michael was all-in pre-flop again, this time with 42,900. He got called by seat 3, who tabled pocket 7s. Michael held pocket Jacks and was ahead, again, but this time the flop came 7 6 6 giving his opponent the full house.
When you're running good, however, you're running good. The turn delivered a Jack, giving Michael a better full house and when a Queen fell on the river, Michael doubled up again. Seat 2 claims he folded a Jack, so that turn card was a one-outer for Michael.
David Fox's comeback was short-lived, however. Following a raising war, he was all-in pre-flop holding pocket Jacks against a player holding pocket Queens. The Queens held up and David exited this event in 33rd place.
32 players remain...just 5 away from the money.

Event 11: Sick Fades for Fox
$1,000 + $90 NL
After a raising war, David Fox (Coram, NY) was all-in against the player on his right. David's pocket 9s were ahead of the K♦9♣ he was facing, but the flop came J♣8♣4♣ giving his opponent a club flush draw to go with the Kings for outs. Turn was the Q♦, adding a gutshot straight draw and four more outs for his opponent. Fox had to fade 14 outs on the river -- and did. It was the J♦. "Nice Fade" said Lippy.
Soon after, David was all-in again with pocket Tens. This time he was well ahead of the pocket 3s of his opponent. The flop came J 5 4 and clean for David. Turn was a 3, however, giving his opponent an open-ender and 8 outs. River was a Jack, however, and David doubled up again. Another nice fade for the Fox. He's now up to ~80k.

On the river with a board of A♦9♣7♥K♦3♦, seat 1 (sb) bet 21k. Andrew Kloc (Naugatuck, CT) tanked for a few minutes. He counted out the call, counted out his remaining chips, and continued to cogitate. He finally tossed the chips in the pot. He opponent was reluctant to show his hand. Andrew rolled over pocket 4s and seat 1 mucked.
All he could beat was a bluff and he somehow figured out that was exactly what his opponent held -- nothing. Nice call, Andrew.
Play continued into Level 12, blinds 1k/2k with 300 antes.

It was over quickly as the 7♦ hit the turn completing the flush. Mike was drawing dead and headed for the door.

Event 11: David Peters Peters Out
$1,000 + $90 NL
Bob Hwang (Barnegat, NJ) opened for 3k utg and got four callers. The flop came J♥6♣4♣ and the small blind checked. "Action Bob" bet 12k, and David Peters of Toledo, OH, (who finished 3rd in the $7,200 event a couple of days ago for $58k) went into the tank for a bit. He eventually opted to raise to 32k straight. The other three players folded and Bob took a few seconds before announcing he was all-in (48k on top). David called quickly, showing T♣8♣ for a flush draw. Bob was ahead with pocket Jacks. The last two peeled off 3♦9♥ and Action Bob doubled up.
After paying off Bob, David was left with only 2,200. 200 went into the ante on the next hand and he moved all-in for 2k. Action folded to Bob, who was now the big blind. He called the extra 800 chips without looking at his cards, which turned out to be 4♦2♣. David held J♣6♣ and was ahead, but clubs have not been good to him. The board came 7♦5♦3♦9♣K♦ giving Bob a flush and the last of David's chips.
End of level 10 and 52 remaining players took off for a ten minute break.

"All-In" followed by "Call" is the repeated cry echoing through the Signature Room. As I run to each table in turn it is usually a race. Pocket Jacks held up against AK. Pocket 9s held up against AQ. Pocket 7s held up against AJ. Pocket Aces held up against AK (okay, that one's not a race).
I just saw AK suited against AK suited -- that one was a split pot.
Nevertheless, another 10 players have exited the tournament in just 25 minutes since the return from dinner break.
60 players remain at 6 tables. Just over 3 million chips in play. Average stack is ~51,500.
Play continues into Level 10, blinds 600/1,200 with 200 antes.

Today, Allen is trying his hand at the Survivor tournament where all you have to do is outlast 90% of the field. He has a couple of small cashes in his poker career here at Borgata, so he obviously has some talents that extend to a different kind of felt-covered table.
Event 11: Dinner Time!
$1,000 + $90 NL
It's that time again. 7pm and the clocks have been stopped. The remaining players are shuffling out of the Signature Room to find some chow. The will return at 8pm sharp to resume play.
The staff are coloring up the green 25 chips during the dinner break.

Event 11: 8 Tables Remain
$1,000 + $90 NL
Players returned from break and began play in level 9, blinds 500/1,000 with 100 antes. They will play until 7pm, then take a one hour dinner break.
Table 9 has broken, its players scattered among the remaining 8 tables. I just counted four empty seats, which means 76 players remain. Sam Eliacin is responsible for one of them. He just busted the player on his left. Sam's now up to about 195k.

Event 11: Big Stacks
$1,000 + $90 NL
I toured the Signature Room trying to identify the chip leader. There are currently nine 10-handed tables in action, so fewer than 90 players remain.
Table three is heavily loaded with Natala Kuey, Jeremy McLaughlin, David Peters, and Roland Israel. Table nine is similarly laden with David Fox, Bob Hwang, Vinny Pahuja, and Steven Cho. Mike "Little Man" Sica (~60k) is sharing his patch of felt with Joe Simmons. Joe's up to about 80k.
Al Riccobono is up to about 80k also and he's on table 7 with Steve Dannenmann and Matt Brady (Hey E-Tay! I hear Congrats are in order!!! I saw the baby pictures!!!).
I appears, however, that the current chip leader is Sam Eliacin (New York). He's up to about 120k. The player on his right claims he's a luckbox. I guess time will tell.

Event 10: Champion - Mehta
Omaha/Stud 8B

Sharad Mehta (Cherry Hill, NJ) had a commanding chip lead when they got to heads-up play.
Michael Brottman (Hamilton Square, NJ) got all-in pre-flop holding 8532 (two diamonds) against Sharad's K742 (two hearts). The board came A K 9 6 A with three diamonds, giving Michael the flush and the scoop to double up.
They continued trading pots until the game changed to 7-card Stud. Despite scooping one pot, Michael was unable to overcome Sharad's chip advantage. The final blow came when Sharad made a flush and Michael was unable to produce a low. Sharad scooped for the win.
